3 Ways to Make Time for Hobbies

Hobbies get a bad rap in our modern, work-centric society. People don’t believe that spending time dabbling in seemingly foolish pursuits has any benefit. But it does. Hobbies are one of the most effective ways to relax and take your body back to baseline. Making time for your hobbies means making time for YOU and it is worth doing.

The real trick is actually carving out the time for it. Try one of these tricks to make more time for yourself:

1)    Turn off the TV. Unless you want watching TV to be your hobby, turn it off. Cancel your cable or just unplug the box for a while and see how much time you suddenly have.

2)    Join a group. If you’ve always enjoyed sewing and wanted to try quilting then the best way to make time for that is to join a quilting group. Being in a group setting creates a feeling of responsibility and will help you keep making time to do it.

3)    Schedule it. Everything else goes in to your calendar, so why shouldn’t your hobby? Pick a block of time every week or every month and block it out. Treat it like work; don’t schedule other things on top of it.

Hobbies are a great way to learn new things and come back to your family and work refreshed. Make time for what makes you feel good.
